The Lanao del Sur Technical Working Group (LDS-TWG) on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency: Access for Climate Security and Health Services (RE3ACHS), in partnership with the UNDP Philippines, conducted an inception planning for the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on June 23–24, 2025, in Cagayan de Oro City.
The planning workshop aimed to finalize key components for the upcoming solar PV installations. Expected outputs included the presentation of the RE3ACHS project implementation structure and coordination mechanism; an understanding of the basis for preliminary system design, site selection, energy capacity, and targeted hospital areas to be energized; formation mechanisms for the Hospital Project Oversight and Grievance Committees; and the development of an indicative work plan for the installation phase.
The RE3ACHS project is an offshoot of the successful Development for Renewable Energy Applications Mainstreaming and Market Sustainability (DREAMS) Project in Tamparan. Recognizing the province’s openness to innovation and its strong commitment to sustainable development, UNDP and the Government of Japan chose to exclusively fund the RE3ACHS project for Lanao del Sur. This partnership reflects the province’s receptiveness to transformative programs that promote the welfare of its people. Governor Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto Adiong Jr. also played an important role by recommending the Tamparan Provincial Hospital, Wao District Hospital, Dr. Serapio B. Montañer Jr. Al-Haj Memorial Hospital in Malabang, and the Provincial Infirmary inside the Provincial Capitol that shall receive the solar power systems.
The activity featured panel presentations on solar PV technologies, including system design, capacities and potential, limitations and common issues, and emerging trends in solar PV applications. It also covered discussions on the RE3ACHS project goals and objectives, key findings from the technical feasibility and Shariah/Ibadah compliance studies, and insights into energy efficiency in theory, legislation, and practical application.
Participants engaged in group and individual discussions to identify anticipated challenges during construction and proposed solutions to ensure timely implementation.
The official project logo was designed and presented by Graphic Artist Abdul Ampuan, followed by brief closing remarks from RE3ACHS Project Focal Person and Provincial Information Officer Salma Jayne Alonto Tamano.
