In an important step designed to raise public awareness about PhilHealth’s health care initiatives, the Kapihan with Media and Information Officers’ Forum took place today at MBistro in Marawi City. This event gathered local media representatives and information officers from various agencies in Lanao del Sur to discuss the implementation of Universal Health Care (UHC) and its advantages for the community.
The forum began with opening remarks from Kassandra Louisa M. Mamainte, Head of the Local Health Insurance Office (LHIO) in Marawi. Mamainte stressed the significance of effective communication in sharing essential health information with the public and encouraged participants to actively promote health programs.
The conversation then transitioned to the Universal Health Care Act (Republic Act No. 11223) and its Implementing Rules and Regulations, presented by Nur-Ul Yassien E. Dangcal, Head of the Membership Section of PhilHealth BARMM. Dangcal offered an overview of the UHC law, explaining how it seeks to ensure equitable access to quality health services for all Filipinos, especially in the Bangsamoro region.
Jasifa M. Ameril, the Konsulta Point Person for LHIO Marawi, introduced the KonSulTa Benefit Package. She explained that this package is designed to provide comprehensive outpatient services to Filipinos, focusing on preventive care, early detection of chronic illnesses, and affordable access to medicines. It offers consultations, health risk screening, diagnostic tests, and selected medications.
Dr. Hanifah A. Omar, Medical Specialist I from the Health Care Delivery Management Division (HCDMD) PRO BARMM, provided important updates on the benefits available under the UHC program. Dr. Omar’s presentation highlighted the expanded coverage and services that PhilHealth now provides, tailored to meet the diverse needs of the community.
In addition to the presentations, representatives from various agencies, such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), offered brief updates on their respective programs in collaboration with PhilHealth. Their contributions showcased the joint efforts being made to improve health services and support for the residents of Lanao del Sur.
The forum wrapped up with a Q&A session, allowing attendees to ask questions and engage in discussions about the topics covered. Participants expressed gratitude for the information shared and underscored the necessity for ongoing collaboration between media, health officials, and local agencies to ensure the community is well-informed about available health services.
The Kapihan with Media and Information Officers’ Forum acted as a crucial platform for encouraging dialogue and strengthening partnerships aimed at enhancing health care access and quality in Lanao del Sur. As the region continues to face challenges in health service delivery, initiatives like this are essential in empowering the community through knowledge and resources.
