In response to a 4.9 magnitude earthquake that struck the Municipality of Wao, Lanao del Sur, on March 8, 2025, at around 12:53 AM, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Lanao del Sur, under the directive of Governor Mamintal A. Adiong, Jr., Chairperson of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, and Vice Governor Muhammad Khalid R. Adiong, immediately deployed its Emergency Response and Assessment Team to the affected area.
The team met with Wao Municipal Mayor Elvino B. Balicao, Jr., and Municipal DRRM Officer Mr. Francis Garcia to discuss the impact of the earthquake and ensure coordinated response efforts. The visit and assessment were conducted early in the morning of the same day.
In collaboration with the Wao DRRM Office and other concerned agencies, the PDRRMO conducted an on-site assessment of the affected areas, particularly inspecting buildings and establishments that may have sustained structural damage. Some public and private establishments as well as residential homes were affected by the earthquake; however, there were no reported damages to electric posts, water supply, communication lines, roads, bridges, public terminals, or the municipal hall. Local health facilities also remained fully operational, with no reported surge in patient admissions due to the earthquake. There were no reports of fatalities, however, there were two persons with minor injuries reported.
Despite the continuous aftershocks, residents were advised to remain vigilant and prepared for any potential hazards that could arise. Authorities continue to monitor the situation to ensure the safety of the community. Local Government Unit and the disaster assessment and needs analysis team of Wao Municipality are continuing their evaluation.
