The Provincial DRRM Office – LANAO DEL SUR (PDRRMO-LDS), in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection – Lanao del Sur (BFP-LDS), successfully conducted the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on March 13, 2025, at the Mindanao State University-Integrated Laboratory School (MSU-ILS).
Under the theme “Let’s DUCK, COVER, and HOLD,” the drill aimed to enhance earthquake preparedness and response among participants. The NSED is a nationwide exercise organized by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Central, designed to evaluate and improve the country’s readiness for seismic events. The primary goal of the drill is to strengthen the preparedness and response capabilities of Filipinos in the event of an earthquake. By encouraging regular practice in earthquake readiness, the initiative aims to instill natural instincts during such emergencies. Furthermore, the drill serves as a demonstration of the government’s capability to manage disasters, boost national resilience, and assess the overall capacity of the nation to respond effectively to earthquakes.
Participants engaged in various activities that simulated real-life earthquake scenarios, allowing them to practice essential safety measures. The event not only raised awareness about earthquake preparedness but also fostered a sense of community and cooperation among students, faculty, and staff.
As the Philippines is located in a seismically active region, initiatives like the NSED are crucial in ensuring that citizens are well-equipped to handle potential disasters. The PDRRMO and OCD continue to advocate for regular drills and training sessions to promote safety and preparedness across the nation.
