The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Lanao del Sur, in collaboration with the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM) of Mindanao State University-Main Campus, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Mindanao State University Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (MSU-DRRM) Office, successfully conducted a two-day training on Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS), along with an Earthquake and Fire Preparedness Drill, for student leaders of the MSU-CNSM on May 14–15, 2025.

Held at the CNSM premises within the MSU Main Campus in Marawi City, the activity aimed to strengthen the disaster preparedness, emergency response capabilities, and leadership skills of student leaders in the face of both natural and man-made disasters.

The training commenced with intensive lectures and hands-on demonstrations on Standard First Aid. Participants were taught life-saving skills such as wound management, fracture immobilization, and proper response to common medical emergencies. PDRRMO Training Team spearheaded by Engr. Lindy M. Macawadib (Chief of Operations and Warning Division) and BFP-Marawi City Fire Station trainers and medical professionals facilitated the sessions, ensuring the students received accurate and practical instruction.

On the second day, the focus shifted to disaster preparedness, particularly for earthquakes and fire incidents. Students were guided through simulation exercises on evacuation protocols, safe zones, and coordination strategies during disasters. The fire drill included actual fire suppression demonstrations by the BFP, where students were also given the opportunity to handle fire extinguishers and practice emergency evacuation.

The activity emphasized the importance of engaging the youth, especially student leaders, in proactive disaster preparedness.

Participants expressed appreciation for the hands-on experience and the opportunity to enhance their leadership capabilities through practical emergency response training.

The successful conduct of this two-day activity marks another significant step toward building a more disaster-resilient academic community in Lanao del Sur, in line with national goals for risk reduction and emergency preparedness.
