Maranaws are known artisans whose centuries old crafts can be found in different museums around the globe. Their artistic quality is evident of their okir designs carved into different products only found in the province. It survived the pressure of modern fashion demand by integrating meticulously handwoven langkit into various fashion trends by younger generations of Meranaws.
They live surrounding Lake Lanao, the lone ancient lake in Southeast Asia, where historic battles with foreign invaders in different kotas took place, demonstrating their love for the homeland, their royalties, torogans, etc. They proudly danced singkil with the beat of an agong, sounded their kulintang ensemble, played with kasipa, chanted their darangen and narrated their well-loved epic of Bantugen.










Exploring Places and Landmarks
The province hosts various beautiful destinations and landmarks. Marawi is the capital city, a bustling urban known for its architectural charms and vibrant culture with numerous masjeds and cultural sites. Authentic Meranaw cuisines will fill unsatiating tummy of any wanderlust. It also hosts Kilometer Zero, original reference point of all roads in Mindanao, and Mindanao State University, overlooking Lake Lanao and the tale of Sleeping Lady. Going south to the coastal will take you to pristine watersprings and beautiful beaches. Going far to the first district will take you to offbeat destinations such as Mount Makaturing and Mount Ragang, the highest peak in the province, more than 9,000 feet above sea level, tempting for climbing enthusiasts.
