Members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) convened today at the Social Hall of the New Capitol Complex for their 2nd quarter meeting, presided over by Board Member Abdulhamid Amerbitor. The agenda included crucial topics such as weather updates, incident reports from January to June 2025, emergency preparedness and response trainings, enhancements to the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan (LDRRMP), the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management for Health (DRRM-H) Plan, and updates on the contingency plan for CY 2026.

Shaminoden M. Sambitory, Head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), provided weather updates concerning the Low Pressure Area (LPA), the Southwest Monsoon, and localized thunderstorms affecting various parts of the country. He also reported on incidents in Lanao del Sur from January to June 2025, which included 108 road accidents, 8 incidents involving fallen tree branches, 2 drowning incidents, 11 flash floods, 1 fallen electric pole, 2 tornadoes, 27 fire incidents, 1 whirlwind, and 4 earthquakes.

Brigadier General Billy Dela Rosa, Commander of the 103rd Brigade, updated the council on the peace and order situation in Lanao del Sur. He noted, “This is the first time there has been no failure of elections in Lanao del Sur during the May 2025 general elections,” expressing gratitude to the people of the province for their cooperation and to Governor Mamintal “Bombit” Alonto Adiong, Jr. for his support. Brigadier General Mario Jacinto, Commander of the 1101st Brigade, emphasized the importance of collaboration in maintaining peace, stating, “Para sa ikakaunlad ng lalawigan ng Lanao del Sur, magtulungan po tayo.”

Police Major Salahuddin Basher highlighted the daily simulation exercises conducted by police officers to validate and improve their readiness for various hazards. Meanwhile, Fire Senior Inspector Ysrael Kamid of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Lanao del Sur reported the addition of fire trucks across various fire stations in the province, including six new fire trucks for the municipalities of Kapatagan, Amai Manabilang, Bacolod Kalawi, Madalum, Tugaya, and Maguing, as well as five fire trucks for Wato Balindong, Bayang, Masiu, Poona Bayabao, and Lumba-Bayabao.

Dr. Nur Muhammad Alawi of the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO-LDS) reported a total of 565 HIV cases in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), with 176 cases in Lanao del Sur and 83 in Marawi City as of May 2025. He also noted 32 suspected Monkeypox cases in BARMM, with none reported in Lanao del Sur.

Finally, Adil Robroy Macarambon, Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer IV (LDRRMO), presented updates on the contingency plans for CY 2026, aimed at strengthening emergency preparedness.

The meeting concluded with the presentation of an appreciation award to Hon. Abdulhamid Amerbitor for his leadership and participation, followed by a photo opportunity with attendees.
