The Modern Rice Production Technology Demonstration Farm in Taraka, Lanao del Sur is a proud milestone in the province’s journey toward food security and agricultural advancement. Spearheaded by the hardworking members of the Taraka Modern Farmers Producer Cooperative and supervised by Dr. Amer Comadug, Agricultural Consultant and Acting Municipal Agriculturist of Taraka LGU, the initiative featured two demonstration sites showcasing improved farming practices and technologies. With the vital support of the Provincial Government of Lanao Del Sur– Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (PLGU-OPAg), who provided quality rice seeds and fertilizers, both techno-demo sites achieved remarkable gains in productivity.

This initiative was implemented under the 𝗠𝗼𝘇𝗵𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗼 𝗞𝗮𝘄𝗶𝘆𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗮 𝗥𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗼 (𝗠𝗞𝗥𝗔) 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺, a flagship program of PLGU-OPAg aimed at enhancing food production and livelihood opportunities through sustainable, modern agricultural interventions. In 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼-𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝟭, farmers recorded a yield of 𝟭𝟰𝟲 𝗯𝗮𝗴𝘀 per hectare, a dramatic increase from their previous harvest of 68 sacks per hectare—reflecting a 47% rise in production. Meanwhile, 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼-𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝟮 yielded 𝟭𝟲𝟴 𝗯𝗮𝗴𝘀 per hectare, compared to just 72 sacks in the last cropping season—marking a 43% increase. These results were achieved between September to December 2024, showcasing the effectiveness of the demonstrated technologies over this period.

This success would not have been possible without the strong convergence of efforts between the LGU, PLGU-OPAg, and the community of farmers, who demonstrated unwavering commitment to adopting modern rice farming technologies.

The initiative also acknowledges the valuable contribution of Agricultural Students from Lanao Central College Inc., who actively participated in transplanting rice seedlings across the two techno-demo sites—proving that youth involvement plays a vital role in the future of agriculture.
